Couples Should Share Everything

December 17th, 2025.

“And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.” (Genesis 2:25)

Marriage is a covenant of transparency and trust. Genesis 2:25 describes Adam and Eve as naked and unashamed, symbolizing complete openness before one another. This principle teaches that couples should share everything — their possessions, plans, and hearts — without secrecy or shame.

Secrecy undermines trust. When spouses hide finances, possessions, or personal struggles, they erode the foundation of unity. Marriage is about becoming one flesh, which means sharing life fully. To withhold from your spouse is to deny the covenant of oneness.

Trust is built through openness. When couples share their dreams, fears, and resources, they strengthen their bond. Transparency fosters intimacy, while secrecy breeds suspicion. Proverbs 31:11 says, “The heart of her husband safely trusts her.” Trust is the fruit of openness.

Marriage requires vulnerability. Just as Adam and Eve were naked without shame, spouses must be willing to be vulnerable with one another. This includes sharing weaknesses, confessing struggles, and inviting accountability. Vulnerability deepens intimacy and reflects the covenant of grace.

To marry someone you cannot confide in is to marry without true partnership. Marriage is not about independence but interdependence. It is about entrusting yourself fully to another, knowing that you are safe in their love.

Ultimately, openness in marriage reflects Christ’s relationship with the church. He calls us to walk in the light, not in secrecy (1 John 1:7). When couples embrace transparency, they walk in the light together, experiencing the fullness of covenant love.

Prayer

Lord, teach me to walk in openness and trust in my marriage. Help me to share my heart, my possessions, and my plans with my spouse, so that we may reflect the covenant of oneness You designed. Amen.
