Faith Moves First
January 20th, 2026.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
One of the biggest misunderstandings in the Christian walk is the idea that God moves first and we follow. That sounds spiritual, but it’s not biblical. All through Scripture, God waits for a step of faith before He releases a move of power. Faith is not passive. Faith is not sitting down, hoping something will change. Faith is movement. Faith is action. Faith is stepping out even when nothing around you looks like what God promised.
Look at Peter. Jesus didn’t calm the storm first. He didn’t freeze the waves. He didn’t make the water solid. He simply said, “Come.” That was it. No explanation. No safety net. No guarantee. Peter had to move first. He had to lift his foot, swing it over the edge of the boat, and place it on water that was still moving. The miracle didn’t happen before the step — the miracle happened because of the step. That’s how faith works. You move, then God moves.
Many believers pray and then wait for conditions to become comfortable. They want the water to turn into ice before they step. They want the door to open before they walk toward it. They want the provision to appear before they obey the instruction. But that’s not faith — that’s sight. And the Bible says we walk by faith, not by sight. If you’re waiting to see something before you move, you’re not walking by faith. You’re walking by comfort.
Faith always requires a risk. Faith always requires a step. Faith always requires movement. And until you move, nothing moves. Heaven responds to action. God responds to obedience. The supernatural responds to steps. You can pray all you want — and you should — but prayer doesn’t replace movement. Prayer prepares you to move. Prayer aligns your heart. Prayer strengthens your spirit. But after prayer, you must act.
Think about the widow in 2 Kings 4. Elisha didn’t multiply the oil while it was sitting in the jar. The oil multiplied while she poured. The miracle was in the movement. If she didn’t pour, nothing would have happened. The Jordan River didn’t part while Israel stood on the shore. It parted when the priests stepped into the water. Again — movement. Action. Faith.
This is why many believers feel stuck. They’re waiting for God to do something dramatic, but God is waiting for them to take a simple step. They want God to confirm what He already commanded. They want God to make everything easy before they obey. But faith doesn’t work like that. Faith is stepping out when nothing looks ready. Faith is moving when nothing looks possible. Faith is acting on what God said, not what you see.
If you want to see God move, you must move first. Not recklessly — but obediently. Not randomly — but in alignment with what He has already spoken. When you move, heaven backs you. When you step, God strengthens you. When you act, God amplifies your action. Faith is not waiting for God to act. Faith is acting because you know God already has.
Prayer
Lord, give me the courage to move when You speak. Help me stop waiting for perfect conditions and start walking in faith. Strengthen me to take bold steps, knowing You will meet me in my movement. Amen.
Reflection Question
What step of faith have you been delaying because you were waiting to “see something” first?
