God Works With Your Steps
January 23rd, 2026.
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.” (Psalm 37:23)
One thing you must understand about God is this: He orders steps, not sitting. He directs movement, not stagnation. He guides walkers, not watchers. Many believers want God to guide them while they remain still, but God does not steer people who refuse to move. He orders steps — meaning you must be stepping for Him to order anything.
This is why the story of the four lepers in 2 Kings 7 is so powerful. Israel was starving. The prophetic word had already been spoken. God was ready to move. But nothing changed until four unlikely, rejected, marginalized men decided to take a step. They didn’t have strength. They didn’t have influence. They didn’t have resources. They didn’t even have full health. But they had movement. And that was enough for God.
The Bible says that as they walked, God magnified their footsteps. What sounded like weak, dragging feet on earth became the thunder of a mighty army in the ears of the enemy. Think about that. God didn’t move until they moved. God didn’t amplify anything until they acted. God didn’t release the miracle until they took the step. Their movement activated heaven’s intervention.
If those lepers had stayed still, Israel would have remained in famine. The prophecy would have looked false. The breakthrough would have been delayed. And everyone would have assumed God didn’t answer. But the truth is, God had already answered — He was simply waiting for someone to move so He could work with their steps.
This is exactly how many believers miss their miracles today. They pray, but they don’t move. They believe, but they don’t act. They declare, but they don’t step. They want God to do everything while they do nothing. But God works with steps. God multiplies movement. God amplifies obedience. You cannot expect God to order steps you refuse to take.
Your steps may feel small. Your movement may feel insignificant. Your obedience may feel weak. But God doesn’t need your strength — He needs your step. He doesn’t need your perfection — He needs your willingness. He doesn’t need your power — He needs your movement. When you step, He strengthens. When you move, He multiplies. When you act, He amplifies.
Stop waiting for everything to be perfect before you move. Stop waiting for the whole plan before you take the first step. Stop waiting for God to do what He’s waiting for you to start. The lepers didn’t know how things would turn out. They didn’t have a guarantee. They didn’t have a promise of safety. They simply said, “Why sit here until we die?” And that one decision changed everything.
God is ready to work with your steps. But He cannot work with your stillness. Move — and watch what God does with your movement.
Prayer
Lord, order my steps and give me the courage to walk in the direction You lead. Help me move even when I don’t see the full picture, trusting that You will meet me in my obedience. Amen.
Reflection Question
What step — even a small one — can you take today that gives God something to work with?
