Marriage is One Man and One Woman
December 14th, 2025.
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24)
God’s design for marriage has always been clear: it is the union of one man and one woman. In Genesis 2:24, we see the divine blueprint — Adam was joined to Eve, and the two became one flesh. This was not a cultural accident but a divine intention. God did not bring Adam multiple wives, nor did He bring another man. He brought one woman, establishing monogamy as His plan.
This principle is reinforced throughout Scripture. Genesis 1:27–28 shows that God blessed male and female together, commanding them to be fruitful and multiply. Only the union of man and woman fulfills this mandate. No other arrangement — whether same-sex unions, polygamy, or other distortions — can accomplish God’s purpose for marriage.
Marriage is not subject to human redefinition. Romans 3:4 reminds us, “Let God be true, but every man a liar.” When society attempts to redefine marriage, it is rejecting God’s truth. Civilization, education, or cultural trends cannot change God’s mind. Malachi 3:6 declares, “I am the LORD, I change not.” His design remains the same from Eden until now.
The union of one man and one woman is not only about reproduction but also about covenantal intimacy. Paul calls it a “great mystery” in Ephesians 5:31–32, pointing to Christ and the church. Just as Christ is united with His bride, the church, so marriage reflects that sacred union. Any deviation from this design distorts the picture God intended.
Marriage is holy because it mirrors God’s covenant love. To embrace His design is to walk in His blessing. To reject it is to walk in rebellion. As believers, we must uphold the truth that marriage is one man and one woman, not because of tradition but because of divine revelation.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for establishing marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Help me to honor Your design and to stand firm in Your truth, even when culture seeks to redefine it. May my life and relationships reflect Your covenant love. Amen.
