Marriage Requires Shared Vision

December 18th, 2025.

“Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” (Amos 3:3)

Marriage is not just about living under the same roof; it is about pursuing the same vision and goal for the future. Genesis 2:24 says that a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This “oneness” extends beyond physical intimacy — it is about unity of purpose.

When spouses pursue different goals, disunity arises. Amos 3:3 asks, “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” Agreement is essential for progress. A body whose organs fight against each other cannot survive; likewise, a marriage where spouses pull in opposite directions cannot thrive.

Psalm 133:1–3 declares that God’s blessing rests where there is unity: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! … For there the LORD commanded the blessing.” Unity in marriage invites God’s favor. Disunity hinders progress and blocks blessing.

Shared vision requires intentional communication. Couples must talk things over, make decisions together, and align their pursuits. When one spouse makes decisions independently, it undermines unity. But when both walk in agreement, their marriage becomes a powerful force for advancement.

Ephesians 4:3 urges believers to “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” This applies to marriage as well. Unity is not automatic; it requires effort, humility, and mutual submission.

Ultimately, shared vision reflects Christ and the church. Just as the church follows Christ’s mission, spouses must align their goals with God’s purpose. When they do, their marriage becomes a testimony of unity and blessing.

Prayer

Lord, help me to walk in unity with my spouse. Teach us to align our vision and goals with Your purpose, so that our marriage may reflect Your blessing and advance Your kingdom. Amen.
