Building on Christ the Cornerstone

November 30th, 2025.

Building on Christ means prioritizing His Word, His presence, and His values. It means allowing Scripture to guide decisions, prayer to shape intimacy, and faith to sustain commitment. When Christ is the foundation, marriage becomes resilient against trials, temptations, and cultural pressures.

Jesus illustrated this in Matthew 7:24–25, where the wise man built his house on the rock. When storms came, the house stood firm. In marriage, storms will come — financial struggles, health challenges, disagreements, and external pressures. But when Christ is the cornerstone, the marriage stands firm.

Consider practical ways to build on Christ:

  • Establish regular prayer and devotion as a couple.

  • Align decisions with biblical principles.

  • Seek counsel from godly mentors.

  • Commit to serving God together.

Marriage built on Christ reflects His love for the church. It becomes a testimony of God’s faithfulness, showing the world that His covenant is unbreakable.

Prayer

Lord, be the cornerstone of my marriage. Help me to build on Your Word and to trust in Your strength. May my relationship stand firm against every storm and reflect Your love to the world. Amen.

Reflection Question

What steps can you take today to ensure your marriage is built on Christ as the cornerstone?

“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” (Psalm 127:1)

Every marriage needs a foundation. Without a strong foundation, the storms of life will cause cracks and collapse. Psalm 127:1 reminds us that unless the Lord builds the house, all human effort is in vain. This truth applies directly to marriage.

Couples may build their marriage on attraction, wealth, or social status, but these foundations are fragile. Only Christ provides a foundation that endures. He is the cornerstone, the solid rock upon which marriage must stand.
