Only the Spiritual Can Discern the Spiritual
November 21st, 2025.
1 Corinthians 2:14 (NIV) – “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.”
Spiritual assignments require spiritual discernment. You cannot carry out the work of God effectively if you do not understand the ways of God. And according to 1 Corinthians 2:14, the only way to truly grasp spiritual truths is through the Spirit of God.

This is why being spiritual is not just a preference—it’s a necessity. The person without the Spirit sees divine instructions as foolishness. They cannot comprehend the depth, urgency, or strategy of heaven’s agenda. But the spiritual person discerns, understands, and responds.
Think of Jesus’ ministry. He often spoke in parables, and many people didn’t understand. But those who were spiritually hungry leaned in. They asked questions. They received revelation. The same is true today. God is speaking, but only those tuned to His frequency can hear.
This is why carnality is dangerous. A carnal person may be religious, active in church, even gifted—but without spiritual discernment, they miss the heart of God. They may substitute performance for presence, routine for revelation. But God is not looking for activity—He’s looking for alignment.
James 4:4 warns us that friendship with the world is enmity with God. You cannot be spiritually sharp while being emotionally entangled with worldly values. The world promotes self, comfort, and compromise. The Spirit calls us to surrender, holiness, and truth.
To serve your generation, you must be spiritually discerning. You must know what God is saying, what He is doing, and how He wants it done. This requires intimacy with the Holy Spirit. It requires time in the Word, time in prayer, and a heart that is yielded.
The spiritual person doesn’t just react—they respond. They don’t just move—they are moved by God. They don’t just speak—they speak what they hear from heaven. That’s the kind of servant God is looking for.
So today, ask yourself: Am I spiritually discerning? Do I understand the things of the Spirit, or do they seem distant and confusing? If you feel disconnected, don’t be discouraged. The Holy Spirit is available to teach, guide, and reveal. But you must be willing to lean in.
You’ve been called to a spiritual assignment. Make sure you’re spiritually equipped.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, I want to understand the things of God. Remove every veil from my heart and mind. Help me to discern Your voice, Your will, and Your ways. Make me spiritually sharp and sensitive, so I can serve my generation with clarity and power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection Question
Are you spiritually discerning—or are you relying on human logic to interpret divine assignments?
