Pentecost: Power for Purpose
November 3rd, 2025.
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” — Acts 1:8 (KJV)
Pentecost was never meant to be just a spiritual spectacle. It was a divine strategy. Acts 1:8 lays out the blueprint: “Ye shall receive power… and ye shall be witnesses.” The goal of Pentecost is power, the sign of Pentecost is tongues, but the purpose of Pentecost is evangelism — world missions, starting with your world.
When the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples, they didn’t just speak in tongues — they spoke with boldness. They didn’t just feel empowered — they became witnesses. Pentecost was not the end of an upper room experience; it was the beginning of a global movement. And that movement starts with you.
The power you receive through the Holy Spirit isn’t just for personal edification — it’s for public transformation. It’s meant to influence your sphere: your family, your friends, your colleagues, your community. You are called to use the Pentecost experience to win your world into the kingdom of God.
Tongues may be the sign, but they are not the mission. The mission is souls. The mission is influence. The mission is impact. The Holy Spirit equips you to speak truth, live boldly, love deeply, and shine brightly in every space you occupy.
Think about your Jerusalem — your immediate circle. Your Judea — your extended relationships. Your Samaria — the places you’d rather avoid. And the uttermost parts — the people you’ve never met. Pentecost empowers you to reach them all.
This power is not limited to pulpits or platforms. It’s for boardrooms, classrooms, kitchens, and street corners. It’s for conversations over coffee and moments of quiet intercession. It’s for every believer who dares to say, “Lord, use me.”
So today, ask yourself: Am I using the power of Pentecost to fulfill its purpose? Am I influencing my world for the kingdom? Am I witnessing with my life, not just my lips?
The Spirit didn’t come to make us feel spiritual — He came to make us effective. Let’s not settle for signs without fruit. Let’s embrace the full purpose of Pentecost: power that leads to evangelism.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, thank You for Your power. Help me to use it not just for personal growth, but for kingdom impact. Make me a witness in my world — bold, loving, and effective. Let my life draw others to You. Amen.
