The Seed Determines the Fruit
December 3rd, 2025.
“The seed is the word of God.” (Luke 8:11)
Jesus taught that the Word of God is seed. Just as natural seed produces fruit according to its kind, so the Word produces spiritual fruit in our lives. If we want godly fruit, we must sow godly seed.
Luke 8:11 makes it clear: the Word of God is the seed. When we sow Scripture into our hearts, it produces faith, obedience, and transformation. Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The seed of the Word grows into the fruit of faith.
Conversely, if we sow worldly philosophies, negative words, or sinful thoughts, we reap fruit that reflects those seeds. The soil of our hearts does not discriminate; it simply multiplies what is planted. That is why Proverbs 4:23 urges us to guard our hearts, for everything we do flows from them.
The seed determines the harvest. If we want joy, we must sow gratitude. If we want peace, we must sow trust in God. If we want holiness, we must sow obedience to His Word. The harvest always reflects the seed.
This principle also applies to ministry. The kind of messages we sow into people’s lives determines the kind of disciples we raise. If we sow truth, we raise people of truth. If we sow compromise, we raise people of compromise. Ministry is not neutral; it reflects the seeds sown.
Ultimately, the seed is the Word, and the Word never fails. Isaiah 55:11 promises that God’s Word will accomplish what He desires. When we sow His Word, we can trust Him for a harvest of righteousness.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your Word as seed. Help me to sow it faithfully into my life and into the lives of others, trusting You for a harvest of righteousness. Amen.
