Your Sin Doesn’t Change God’s Disposition Toward You

February 1st, 2026.

“For I am the Lord, I do not change.” (Malachi 3:6)

One of the most stabilizing truths you must anchor your life on is this: your sin does not change God’s disposition toward you. God does not love you based on your performance. He does not stay with you because you are flawless. He does not bless you because you always get it right. His posture toward you is rooted in His nature, not your behavior. And His nature never changes.

Malachi 3:6 says, “I am the Lord, I do not change.” That means God’s love doesn’t fluctuate. His presence doesn’t waver. His commitment doesn’t shift. His heart doesn’t swing back and forth depending on how well you behaved this week. He is constant. He is steady. He is unmovable. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

But here’s where many believers get trapped: they assume God feels about them the way they feel about themselves. When they sin, they feel disgusted. They feel ashamed. They feel unworthy. And they project those emotions onto God. They assume He must be angry. They assume He must be disappointed. They assume He must be distant. But that’s not truth — that’s guilt talking.

God is not shocked by your sin. He saw it before you ever committed it. He knew every weakness you would ever have. He knew every failure you would ever fall into. He knew every struggle you would ever face. And He still chose you. He still called you. He still saved you. He still sealed you with His Spirit. He still committed Himself to you eternally.

Think about Jesus and Peter. Jesus knew Peter would deny Him — not once, but three times. And yet Jesus didn’t change His attitude toward Peter. He didn’t withdraw His love. He didn’t cancel His assignment. He didn’t distance Himself. He prayed for him. He prepared him. He restored him. Why? Because Peter’s sin didn’t change Jesus’ heart.

And your sin doesn’t change God’s heart either.

But here’s the key: sin changes your heart. Sin creates guilt. Guilt creates doubt. Doubt destroys confidence. And without confidence, you cannot approach God boldly. Not because He won’t receive you — but because you won’t come. You hide. You withdraw. You avoid Him. You assume He’s angry. You assume He’s distant. You assume He’s done with you. But none of that is true.

God’s disposition toward you is fixed. He is always predisposed to bless you, favor you, restore you, and walk with you. His hands are still open. His ears are still attentive. His heart is still full of compassion. His Spirit is still within you. His presence is still with you. The only thing that changes is your perception — not His position.

This is why Hebrews 4:16 commands you to “come boldly to the throne of grace.” Not timidly. Not fearfully. Not shamefully. Boldly. Why? Because God’s disposition toward you is grace, not anger. Mercy, not judgment. Love, not rejection.

So stop letting guilt lie to you. Stop letting shame define you. Stop letting failure convince you that God is done with you. He isn’t. He never will be. His disposition toward you is anchored in Christ — and Christ never changes.

Prayer

Lord, thank You that Your heart toward me never changes. Help me stop projecting my shame onto You and teach me to approach You with confidence, knowing Your love is constant. Amen.

Reflection Question

When you fall short, do you assume God’s attitude changes — or do you remind yourself that His nature
